How to Grow an Email List (2025) — 10 Top Tips

Growing an email list is one of the best ways to grow a business.

But how do you do it?

I’m Matt Walsh from Style Factory, one of the web’s leading sources of advice on digital marketing and ecommerce. And today I’m going to answer that question. Stay tuned to this video, and I’ll give you a list of the best ways to turbo-charge the growth of your mailing list.

This helps us out and gives you access to all our essential marketing and ecommerce advice. OK, so let’s dive in. One — start offline. When people think about building a mailing list, they often assume that this is best done online — by adding ‘join our mailing list’ forms to websites, creating landing pages for online ad campaigns and so on.

However, a lot of businesses operate not just online but offline too, and there are plenty of ‘real world’ opportunities for capturing data that can be overlooked.

For example, you can invite people to join a mailing list via paper application forms, business card collection, competitions, phone calls and face to face encounters. So, make a list of any point of contact you have with potential subscribers in the real world, and ensure that each one provides people with an opportunity to join your mailing list offline. Two — incentivize data capture. A lot of business owners think that putting a ‘join our mailing list’ form on the side of a website is all they need to do to generate email subscribers.

This sort of call to action is boring though, and rarely results in a particularly good sign-up rate. Instead, it’s better to incentivize data capture, by spelling out the key benefits of joining your mailing list. These benefits can include access to exclusive content, a free trial of an app or receiving discount codes. Turn your call to action into a compelling offer, and you’ll end up with a lead magnet rather than an empty form. Three — audit your website for data capture opportunities.

A website is obviously a great place to add sign up forms for your mailing list, particularly if it gets a lot of traffic.

Now, a lot of website owners put a sign-up form on their home page and leave it at that.

But this ignores the fact that in a lot of cases, the most visited page on a website isn’t the home page. Blog posts or video pages regularly get more organic traffic than home pages, and if you don’t have a sign-up form beside your most popular content, you are missing a big trick — and lots of subscribers too. So, check your website statistics carefully to see what your most popular pages are, and make sure you have a sign up form on each one of them.

If in doubt, make a sign-up form visible on every page of your site — for example, you can add them to sidebars and at the bottom of blog posts, or link to them in your site navigation. Four — consider using popups on your website. Popups can be really effective for driving sign-ups to a mailing list — particularly when they’re tied to a great offer.

They are typically set up so that they appear a certain number of seconds after a user starts reading an article, after they’ve scrolled through a certain percentage of a page, or when they’re about to leave the site. The only thing to watch out for with popups is that search engines are not always keen on them and can penalize sites that use them too aggressively.

So, if you rely on organic search traffic as your main source of visitors, you may need to tread carefully here. Google has a resource about how to avoid using popups in a way that damages your search rankings — there’s a link to this in the video description. Five — create fantastic blog content. The more traffic you have on your website, the more potential there is for people to see your sign-up forms. And one of the best ways to generate traffic is through high-quality blogging about topics that are related to your business area.

Six — add sign-up opportunities to all your online assets (not just your website). So far, I’ve talked a lot about the ways you can generate email leads on your website. But it’s important not to neglect the data capture opportunities that your other online assets can offer you. Make sure that in addition to your website, you add a mailing list sign up link to your company’s email signatures, YouTube videos, webinars, social media profiles and any content you produce for other websites.

Seven — leverage other people’s lists to grow yours. If you have particularly good relationships with other business owners, you can use these to increase the size of your mailing list. If the price or the opportunity is right, a business associate may be willing to use their mailing list to encourage people to join yours.

They may also be willing to promote your mailing list sign-up link on their website. Eight — use online ads and squeeze pages.

Online ads are a great way to drive signups. However, it’s important to use them in the right way. A lot of people use online ads to push consumers to a product page or the home page of a website. But in a lot of cases, particularly when you’re dealing with a ‘cold’ audience, this is a very ineffective use of ad spend. It can be better to send people to what’s known as a ‘squeeze page.

’ A squeeze page only contains an offer and a form — there’s no navigation or other content to distract users from signing up to your list. Because of this, squeeze pages tend to be highly effective at capturing email addresses that can then be used to develop business relationships with.

Nine — use shorter forms. When building sign up-forms, it’s tempting to add lots of fields to them in a bid to get as much user data as possible. However, you’ll probably find that shorter forms convert better — a lot of the time, one-field forms that only capture email addresses work best.

The best way to judge what form length is right for your business is via A/B testing, which involves creating different versions of forms and monitoring the effectiveness of each. You can also use this process to see which aesthetics convert best too. Ten — send engaging content to your list. So far, we’ve looked at how you can grow your mailing list.

But it’s important to consider how you can stop it shrinking too, via unsubscribes (or messages being flagged as spam).

The best way to do this is by sending consistently great e-newsletters to your list. Strong content that is of interest to your subscribers will keep them engaged, reduce your unsubscribe rate and make visitors more receptive to your offers. Additionally, if your newsletters are really interesting, they are more likely to be forwarded to other people, who may then end up joining your list too. A great way to send out engaging content is via autoresponders — a series of emails that your subscribers automatically receive after signing up to your mailing list. This part of your brain that I’m talking about is called your reticular activating systemic promise, I’m not going to give you a whole boring detailed lesson on it, even though I honestly would kind of love to, but to sum it up, quickly and get straight to the point.

This particular activating system actually pulls your focus to whatever, you feed it.

That is like the quickest simplest easiest explanation. I could give you in10 seconds and it is so unbelievably powerful, and you’re already using it all day, long without even realizing it.

So why don’t you use this to your advantage you’re? Probably already experiencing evidence of what you don’t want so to shift it and there is a way you can start activating it to seething’s that you do want. So let me show you what to do now. Like I said, I have already activated purple flowers for you and no matter what you do today. Even if you just sat on the couch all day at some point, you would notice them and you will see them. However, they might show up for you and I always love.

This cuz people like to like to try and prove me wrong, but you can try and prove me wrong all you want, but you were still going to see. Them just wait and the reason I chose purple flowers as opposed to a million dollars which I’m sure you would have appreciated much more than purple flowers. Is that you don’t have any big feelings, or beliefs or resistance around purple flowers, you don’t have Decades of subconscious programming around them, and essentially you are sort of just neutral around it. You don’t care about purple flowers, so I can activate that for you easily and you will see evidence of it easily.

Does that make sense, I’m activating something that you don’t really have any big feelings, energy or emotions around?

I actually use a similar exercise to this inside of the rewire, which is a 31-day manifesting acceleration experience.

I even have one on money which, everybody loves, but inside of the rewire there are science-based exercises and experiments and different tools. You use each day to like fully to accelerate you’re manifesting so each day for 31days, you listen to a 5-to-15-minute audio, and you follow the quick exercise, and it builds on itself, and the results are truly incredible. It’s just wildly beneficial and this just kind of brought me back to an exercise that Ikin of do inside of the rewire. But when you a reactivating your particular activating system, with something that you want to manifest the key is that you can’t have a ton of conflicting feeling sand energy around it and believe it or not. We all tend to have really conflicting feelings: about what we’re manifesting because often times we want or maybe need it, and that creates a lot of different feelings that come up and that want or need is essentially rooted deeply within your subconscious programming and beliefs, things we were taught or things we were told Or things that you experience, typically with in the first s, years of your life. That creates a lot of deep-rooted feelings.

So, the first thing you want to do to activate this is to get as neutral as possible getting, rid of all of the desperation or want or need, or any high intensity feelings or fear, forguilt or anything else that might pop up as muchas possible. You don’t have to be perfect, because it’s hard to be 100 % neutral around something that you want, because you want it. It’s impossible possible to be just completely not care. But you have to find a balance. You have to get rid of all of that extra intensity. That’s blocking you from having it and I wanted to give you aquic little tool that might help your kind of get neutral, especially if you’re trying to manifest money um.

It’s justa free tool to really help you in this processor getting neutral. I mean it when I say that I am truly obsessed with your results. I really am. That’s why I started this whole channel in the first place, but once you get into a place of beings neutral, as you can around whatever it is, that you’re manifesting and this neutrality it could take minutes it could take hours, it could take days it could take weeks. It could take months depending on how much emotion and programming you have around it.

Only you will know if you’re feeling neutral about it, so don’t try and rush through it and fake it, because the thing is you can’t fake, your feelings, but once you’re neutral about it you are going to activate it for yourself by, stating it with certainty several times to feed your particular activating System what you’re going to see evidence of and manifestation is not a one-size fits-all approach, and this can be done in lots of different variations. So let me give you a few examples, so you can kind of see what to do here are some examples of priming a particular activating system. I always see evidence of blank showing up for me my expectations. Areaways exceeded. I always see blank, it’s obvious no matter. What I do blank keeps showing up for me today.

I will see blank so make it your own make it resonate for you with something that feels certain and, obvious and neutral. Something like of course always see that today, as I mentioned, I already activated purple flowers for you and you will seethe purple flowers everywhere, all over and you might. Even start laughing because you might be one of those people where now that purple flowers a reactivated for you, you are going to start seeing them all over the place, maybe even for like days or weeks or months. I always love kind of hearing how.

This happens for people, but when you activate your particular activating system from a place of neutrality using a statement like the one, I shared above, you will see evidence of it, your certainty of, it fuels it, and it gets your mind on board faster to then create it in your reality.

Does that make sense, and the way I like to use these kinds of activating statements is to say it thereto five times when I first wake up three to five times throughout the day and three to five times before bed. But I like to say it in a neutral way just like how you would think any other thought you don’t want to make this like something, you have to really believe and feel and whatever no. You just want to say it just how you think any other thought casually that casual thought approach is going to be what gets your mind onboard faster if that makes sense, if it feels foreign your brain’s, not going to accept it snow that I’ve activated purple flowers for you what.

10,000 Steps For 30 Days – Our Weight Loss Results!

We walked 10,000 steps every day for 30 days. Find out what happened. Hi, I’m Zena and I’m doing the 10,000 steps a day challenge because I want to try and make my baseline activity for the day a little more active. My name is Fatima I decided to do the 10,000 steps challenge because I thought I wasn’t walking enough I’m Kim and I signed up to do the 10,000 steps a day for the accountability Hi, I’m Erica. I’m doing the 10,000 steps challenge because I know I definitely don’t walk enough I’m hoping after 30 days that I’ll see a little bit more definition, I think that’s always good and I think it’s really cool to be able to see those kind of results from just walking because I think people would think like walking, not really a form of exercise but there’s old ladies out there getting it with their steps in every day and they seem pretty limber and fit I’m hoping to lose a little weight because I feel that I don’t exercise enough and that’ll push me a little I feel like I’m skinny fat and I’d like to decrease my body fat percentage I would love to feel a little bit more mobile and less stiff and also reduce stress How many steps a day would you say you typically take?

I think I take average 3,000 to 4,000 I usually take between 3,000 and 5,000 steps a day and that’s thanks to my dog You know what’s sad? I actually walk to work currently You do? I do! And I still only get like 5,000 steps a day because I live very close to work I usually take about probably 2,000 to 3,000 a day during the week on the weekends it’s different probably like 20,000 because I like to go on long hikes Do you know why you’re supposed to take 10,000 steps a day or have you heard that before? I’ve heard it but I don’t know why.

Maybe it originates from the past because I know back in the day they used to walk like six miles a day I’ll link this article below but apparently the 10,000 steps myth came about in the 1960s when a Japanese company started selling pedometers which is a very good way of getting people to buy pedometers setting an arbitrary number that’s high and telling them that they need to step that much every day but studies later confirmed that people who take 10,000 steps a day have lower blood pressure, they have more stable glucose levels and better moods – which I’m all about You know, I get quite moody and I am looking forward to seeing if that is going to add a noticeable lift to my day Today marks Day 1 of 30 I am currently at 8,900 which is pretty good I walked to work today which was nice I’ve been telling myself to do this forever So, it is almost nine o’clock and I just brushed my teeth I have already put on pajamas I’m like fully ready to wind down and start getting ready for bed and realize I only have nine thousand steps so…

Gona put pants on again and go out there for another thousand It is day seven how are we doing so far, Kim? I think I’m not doing so well… How many days did you successfully walk 10,000 steps? Confidently, three days I walked 10,000 steps three times I have successfully completed seven for seven walking 10,000 steps I walked 10,000 step for six days I’ve actually been in a really great mood the last few days I feel good I think knowing that I’m taking a lot of steps actually makes me feel great For me I think it’s a little bit too soon to tell if I feel any different I’m excited for the next three weeks I think it’s been good so far I’m getting a lot of audiobooks in Okay, guys.

Seven days done stay tuned to see how the rest of it goes… will we make it? I’m getting ready to go do my walk it’s a little early but um it feels good the morning feels good I’m only 6,500 steps in so I’m taking a post-work walk with my dog she’s really enjoying this challenge It’s like now finally 9 o’clock and I still have 5,000 steps to go this is probably the hardest day so far for this challenge Steps challenge life hack you can get about 5000 steps in 30 minutes…On the jump rope! We have completed week two of the 10,000 steps a day challenge Kim, how’s it going? I’m struggling! How many days of the week of the past week have you completed 10,000 steps I would say five That’s really good!

It’s good but it’s a struggle! This week I walked 10,000 steps for three days straight I have miraculously hit 7 for 7 I think now I’m just on a streak and I’m stubborn I’m like don’t want to break it but it does involve a lot of like “Okay, 10 o’clock at night and I still have 3000 to go.” Mmhmm.

Gotta get up and walk around the living room I think I walk 10,000 steps maybe once or twice only This week wasn’t good So that is the end of Week 2 Let’s see how we do for the last two, Kim! It is a Saturday morning It’s been so lovely and lazy I’m just watching MasterChef and Queer Eye but lo and behold it’s almost 12 o’clock and I have 132 steps Ahh!

Just getting home we have about four flights of stairs to climb that should get me maybe a hundred steps maybe two and… Jackpot! Okay, so we are in Week 3, and I am still struggling!

I’m really behind I think I’m the one who’s got the lowest score I feel like the step nazi This one over here has like 12,000 or 13,000 I’ve taken up a new hobby I now jump rope every morning for about five minutes Nice! This week to get my steps in I actually have just been like having a dance party at home by yourself.

By myself! Really cool…You know, I tried this morning to step in my shower while I was showering Getting your steps in is not cool it’s like walking around your block by yourself without a dog or pacing around your friends or like dancing in your living room by yourself My biggest challenge is that I don’t find enough time during my day I think just the nature of working a desk job it is challenging by itself and also having travelled for work recently I don’t know… I don’t really know what the benefits I’m feeling are I don’t know that I feel more fit but I feel more mentally in a good place Mmhmm I agree with that I think I’m still snacking a lot more Me too!

Yeah, yeah. Once I start walking I’m just feeling great Yeah and I think mentally it’s become almost like a measure of success for a good day like I made it 10,000 steps I can go to bed, I’m happy That’s week three! Stay tuned one more week left let’s do this I am about 3,000 steps in at 6:00 p.m.

So I am about to go outside and go for a hike The most annoying thing has happened my headphones have gone on the fritz I realized how much I rely on listening to things to get through 10,000 steps a day and now that it’s not working I don’t want to walk anywhere I’m over it So we’ve reached the end of our 30 day challenge How’d you finish up here in the last week?

Disastrous My last week was good I made almost 20,000 steps probably five days a week My average for the month was 11,000 a day Well I kind of stepped up 3,000 steps a day I think my average is about 7,000 I think my average was about 8,000 That’s probably twice as much as it was! Prior to this, yeah Yeah definitely I think I gained weight on this challenge Oh, I’m sure I did and that kind of upset me and was probably part of the reason I just blew it on the last day I still lost a pound I gained weight! last day I still left it bound I gained It must be from walking to get snacks or because I traded my workouts for long walks instead I gained half a pound okay but I did lose on my waist and I lost body fat so maybe I gained muscle I think my body fat was about the same and I did lose an inch What advice would you give to someone who wanted to attempt 10,00 steps a day?

I think if you have the time to do it it’ll be much easier Get comfortable shoes and be prepared to give up some social time Also be mindful of your diet because you will be snacking often And get a good watch, something that can track your steps accurately so you want to check it every day and stay motivated I think I was looking for more physical changes throughout this challenge and that didn’t happen but I still really enjoyed it and I think I actually will continue to try and be mindful about how many steps I’m getting a day and try hit closer to 10,000 I think it’s a really interesting challenge to be more mindful of how much you walk and also what you put your time towards Okay that marks the end of our 10,000 steps a day challenge If you enjoyed, go ahead and like this video Comment below with anything else we should try for 30 days and let us know if you have completed this challenge.
